1m SIMs cancelled in three years for illegal VoIP

Around one million wireless network SIM cards in Bangladesh have been disconnected for illegal voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) service usage, alongside the blocking of 30,000 IP addresses, in a three-year programme to combat unlicensed VoIP providers, telecoms minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju told parliament on Tuesday. During the crackdown, the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has also cancelled the licences of 21 operators, raided 78 illegal establishments and filed 38 court cases, as reported by BDNews24
