Latvia’s largest mobile network operator by subscribers, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT), has announced that it is now providing its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) service in the city of Liepaja. Having installed a total of eleven LTE-enabled base stations across Liepaja and its surroundings, LMT claims that it is the first location in the country were 4G services are available city-wide. As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, looking to steal a march on its rivals, in June 2010 LMT announced that it had started testing LTE technology at a retail outlet in Liepaja, with the trials to be continued over the summer period.
