PLDT to improve DFON to benefit BPO sector

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) announced yesterday that it is looking to upgrade its domestic fibre-optic network (DFON) as it looks to boost the fortunes of the country’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Offshoring and Outsourcing (O&O) industries. PLDT president and CEO Napoleon L Nazareno says the telco is looking to build on its position of owning the ‘largest network capacity of any provider in the country’, noting that the upgrade to 100G technology will put the Philippines on a par with Japan, South Korea, Australia and Singapore. ‘Our upgrade to advanced optical technologies will add significant bandwidth scalability and intelligence to PLDT’s current network infrastructure allowing us to offer 40G and 100G-based services to meet forecast demand in high speed connectivity,’ Nazareno said.
