According to the Sint Maarten Daily Herald, a judge will make a decision on Wednesday 14 March regarding the case brought by Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland (RCN) against government minister Franklin Meyers, concerning the latter's refusal to issue the former Netherlands Antilles-based government entity a permit to land its submarine cable in Sint Maarten. RCN, which has already commenced the deployment of its submarine cable infrastructure in Saba, Sint Eustatius and St Kitts, argues that Meyers has no authority to deny it permission to utilise the existing landing point belonging to regional telco United Telecommunication Services (UTS). Last month RCN director Sybren van Dam told the paper: ‘We have been busy with this since June 2011.
