According to local press reports Guatemalan telecoms regulator Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones (SIT) has announced that the country’s wireless market grew 14% in 2011, ending the year with 20.7 million lines in service, around 2.6 million more than in 2010. An unnamed SIT official indicated that more than two million new subscriber accounts were added during the second half of the year alone. In addition, of the subscriber total 19.5 million users are reported to use pre-paid accounts.
