Florida-based Harris Corporation has announced that it installing 700MHz Long Term Evolution (LTE) configured modems in a number of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) vehicles in a pilot programme aimed at demonstrating the potential of next generation wireless broadband technology. LVMPD is testing Harris’ Radio Access Network infrastructure, which is connected to the Harris-hosted LTE core in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Meanwhile, Finnish vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has supplied a number of ‘eNode B’ base stations, which are able to operate in all 20MHz of the 700MHz ‘Band 14’ spectrum allocated to public safety.
