Portugal Telecom (PT) has announced that its mobile unit, TMN (Telecomunicacoes Moveis Nacionais), now offers Long Term Evolution (LTE) coverage to 80% of the Portuguese population, a significant increase on the 20% figure available when the network launched in March this year. PT CEO Zeinal Bava said that TMN and its rivals have been able to extend network coverage over the course of the last week following the switch-off of the country’s analogue television network on 26 April, which freed up a large portion of 800MHz spectrum that the operators are entitled to use.
