NTT DoCoMo has announced that its Long Term Evolution (LTE) subscriber base passed five million on 19 August. The cellco’s ‘Xi’ service, which offers maximum downlink speeds of 75Mbps, is growing rapidly, having passed the four million subscriber barrier only 28 days ago. The pace of new additions has grown significantly in recent weeks following the introduction of a new Xi-compatible smartphone range.
