China Unicom and French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent have unveiled plans to expand the Chinese telco’s fibre-optic network in 29 provinces. Alca-Lu will deploy its gigabit passive optical networking (GPON) platform, enabling Unicom to offer subscribers potential download speeds of up to 100Mbps.
