Swedish vendor Ericsson has signed a deal with Japanese operator eAccess to launch Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G technology alongside its existing 3G W-CDMA network. eAccess will use Ericsson’s Mixed Mode solution, allowing it to utilise the same spectrum for both its 3G and 4G networks. The commercial launch of the new LTE system is scheduled for next month, making it the first commercial Mixed Mode network in the world.
