Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) has announced the launch of public trials of Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in Turin. Between 16 and 22 February, members of the public will be able to trial LTE USB dongles, which support mobile broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps downstream and 50Mbps upstream, at special demo stations at TIM’s point of sale in Turin. ‘The launch of this trial phase prior to the commercial rollout of LTE technology-based services is the culmination of a path Telecom Italia has been following since late 2009 as it develops its new ultra-broadband network,’ the company said in a statement on its website.
